purpose:
Graduate design studio exercise to explore different hypothetical urban design interventions to historic cities.
design solution:
I explored Toulon, France [1840] based strictly on the figure/ground - I had never previously studied the city. By studying the city in this manner I was able to draw educated conclusions of significant public buildings, street hierarchy, and overall organization. From there, I proposed hypothetical interventions and expansions inspired by the historical styles of the Roman and Baroque ages.
